Haridas Chaudhuri's Vision of Integral Education

Lecture by Joseph Subbiondo. The late Haridas Chaudhuri distinguished himself as the leading scholar on the work of Sri Aurobindo. He founded and developed the first American university based on Aurobindo’s concept of integral living. Chaudhuri effectively adapted Sri Aurobindo’s integral living to higher education because he believed that it “points the way to dynamic integration of the material and spiritual values of life” and that it “is a call to the reconstruction of human life and society on the basis of abiding spiritual values." Today, Dr. Chaudhuri’s vision continues to inspire the California Institute of Integral Studies, and is being developed at mainstream universities throughout the U.S. This talk will outline the basic tenets of integral education and outline its past, present and future gains.
