Other than the fact that Sashi always looks tired and jaded I think what we need is not another analysis of an "Indian from a snake charmer to a succesful engineer in khaki"
There are bigger issues to worry about. I read some scary news, including a few blogs by researchers, about the growing number of sicknesses, disabilities and deaths, caused by dangerous microbes, chemicals and experiments, that are plaguing or threatening many international students, visiting researchers and immigrant scientists (eager to please and succeed in their institutions of recruitment) in the United States. Who is investigating on this matter? This is not a joke!
Some of us just found out that the dangerous bird flu virus has been created in a lab (as an experiment), and now efforts are underway to crush this information from the public by paranoid politicians...many of whom have forgotten what Hitler did with researchers and with research itself. We don't have smart people, or scientifically inclined people, in Congress. Obama appears like a genius compared to most. A friend said , "Most of them are morons voted in by a popularity contest by the lowest denominators". That is harsh, but the science knowledge of these guys is poor.
Even more unfortunate is that these conservative politicians in Washington, who want to pass new censorship rules for "researchers and public access to research", forget that the Anthrax pores were created and released not by some foreign religious zealot, or an anti-American bigot, but by an American sceintist holding the highest classified security clearance. This mad crazy scientist deliberately released dangerous Anthrax pores onto unsuspecting Americans he disliked or distrusted. The mad scientist and evil doers are not "all out there". They are right here, and they might be using you and me as guniea pigs without us knowing it.
This means there are educated morons from colonized countries who are still working as coolies in these dangerous environments. Who is investigating and who is reporting ont his matter? Are they protected and do they know what their bossed and guys at the highest level are doing?
America needs to stop acting like North Korea when it comes to keeping people in the dark about this kind of research (now constantly tied to national security without any data, facts or disclosure). Nobody needs the formula for a deadly virus, but we do need to have third party research evaluators whose sole purpose is to focus on ethics, safety, and above all letting the public know in simple words what a particular research is about and why it is safe. And these evaluations have to be continuous. With so much secrecy even some basic research protocol are being overlooked.
And what are you guys doing? Talking about "snake charmers, and some engineer working on better ways to improve cell phone connection with his mummy!"
Cute, but please grow up...and look at the world around you seriously. No more living in the past or the clouds or with a colonial mind.
