I did not find this cartoon funny. I found it clueless and sad. Maybe that is the point. I find many women do share in India and among Indians. Because the sharing is intense and continuous many feelings do not go out of control and finds its way to strangers. I always tell my clinical students: if you listen, really hear, understand and respond well your clients, or anyone, will not have to repeat, rant, rave, go on and on and get stuck (that leads to neurosis, anger outbursts, temper tantrums, drama, dramatic expressions, etc.). The reasons why many women do become dramatic, rant, rave or become sullen, manipulative and passive-aggressive is "they are not heard and subtle feelings, beyond tears or anger, are not understand, well expressed and well heard and well integrated".
If we did that then we'd be a better society, a more sophisticated society and a society that was more humanistic. Now leaders, men and morons are learning the worst from macho men of the West, the male theories and male corporations. If Eastern men's identity is born from corporate America or India or China...where is the real "you" or "them"? Where is the real "them" - beyond a suit, beyond work, beyond a job, beyond a role and beyond a position. If feudalism led to colonialism (or made it easier) and now colonialism is making corporatism easier...where is real change? And simply eating, breeding and surviving enough?
How do we move ahead in meaningful ways (after all technology has helped the disabled with its products, and many women with its contraception, etc.), while at the same time not allowing technology to come between us and dominate us? Technology has no feelings...but it can repress ours, distory it or prevent self awareness and growth.
Talking about culture and feelings is one thing...but sharing one's own feelings is another. I feel many Indian men are repressed and are going from the worse of Indian history and culture to the worse of American culture. From few feelings (like irritability, frustration, anger or outbursts) to suppressing feelings (while appearing nice and charming) or getting hypersensitive and hyperegotistical. This is not improvement
